Since its inception in 1985, the Garde-Manger
has adhered to two principles: Over the years these principles have guided
a team effort to alleviate hunger, to provide information about healthy eating
and to help people access employment opportunities. These goals have been
achieved by forging links between individuals and by creating a climate of
mutual respect and trust.
The Garde-Manger Pour Tous carries out its mandate in what are largely underprivileged
neighbourhoods with substantial populations of recent immigrants seeking to
become an integral part of mainstream Quebec
society. The Garde-Manger comes to the
aid of thousands of people living in precarious food security contexts within a
society in constant flux.
Supporting people of all ages, from children to adults, the Garde-Manger is involved
in a wide range of activities driven by its broad vision of healthy eating and
its fight against hunger. From a school hot-lunch
program to healthy eating workshops for neighbourhood residents in Southwest Montréal, the Garde-Manger is tackling hunger
and malnutrition head on.
To accomplish its goals, the Garde-Manger relies on a strong network of
partnerships which help it to develop local awareness and while serving as
sources of local initiatives tailored to neighbourhood needs.
The volunteers, partners, donors and employees of the Garde-Manger Pour Tous,
motivated by their generosity, selflessness, desire to share and social conscience,
are ready, day in and day out, to fight hunger.
More than ever, your involvement in their
struggle is needed.
