The catering service of the Garde-Manger
was created in 2002 when the Cuisine des parents and the Garde-Manger Pour Tous
joined forces.
This hot-lunch service is offered to
children in four Montreal
schools. Between 300 and 500 meals are distributed per day at six different
service points.
N.B. the catering service is not part of
the Ministry of Education’s Food Security Measure.
The dieticians in charge of daily menus
have to take a number of factors into account:
- Canada’s
food guide: following basic nutritional guidelines
- The eating habits of the children served, including
religious dietary restrictions, allergies and so forth
- Feedback from the children themselves, as
reported by employees of the Garde-Manger and by parents (When necessary, our
dieticians adapt menus to the children’s preferences
- The children’s own changing tastes: as
monitored by our dieticians
- The appearance of the dishes we serve: we
pay attention to colours and shapes
- Hygiene and food safety: we keep tabs on the
temperature of the foods we serve, the cleanliness of preparation areas and utensils,
and serving sizes.
- Respect for the environment: we use
reusable tableware.
Menus are decided upon every two months.
Each meal includes a main dish and a dessert.
Just like home!
