Healthy eating workshops

The Garde-Manger’s mobile food team is the result of a solid partnership between various community groups in the neighbourhoods of St. Henri and Little Burgundy, all devoted to teaching the principles of healthy eating to local residents.

In response to some alarming statistics concerning local nutrition and health, a number of community groups decided to reach out to their members to promote a healthier lifestyle in which sports, healthy eating and environmental concerns figure prominently.

Over the past 2 years, the mobile food team has used an innovative approach and great adaptability to reach its goals.

The approach used by the team consists of the following steps:

  • opening up a dialogue with local residents
  • organizing workshops in host community groups – given to groups of 6 participants
  • running of 10 workshops every two months
  • reporting results on an individual and on a group basis
  • sending participants back out into their communities with a message to share
