Food distribution

Founded in 1985 when 12 community groups based in Southwest Montréal decided to join forces in an effort to collect food donations from local businesses and redistribute them to needy neighbourhood residents, the Garde-Manger is first and foremost a food distribution service

Today, operations get underway as early as 5 am with the collection of food from Harvest Montreal, the largest on-island foodbank.

A total of 2,200 kg of food are collected daily and redistributed to 24 community groups in the Southwest and Downtown boroughs of Montréal. These groups come to the aid of the homeless, battered women, addicts, single-parent families, and many others.

For many people, the Garde-Manger truck stands for far more than food. It has become a symbol of stability and security for many isolated individuals who hunger not only for food, but for human contact and a sense of stability in their lives.
